Airport2Park: Meet Designer Mark Rios

Come meet Mark Rios, recently hired by the City of Santa Monica to design the 12- acre expansion of Airport Park at Santa Monica Airport. He will give a talk to community members at a special meeting hosted by the Santa Monica Airport2Park Foundation, on

Friday, May 13th, at 7:00 p.m.,
Mount Olive Church,
1343 Ocean Park Boulevard
Santa Monica.

Food and Drink will be available.

RSVP today (before May 12): info@airport2park.org

airport2ParkThe evening will be an opportunity for the community to hear from acclaimed designer Mark Rios about the parameters of the project for expanding Airport Park on land the City has reclaimed from aviation use, and Mr. Rios’ preliminary ideas for the possibilities there, as well as give feedback to Mr. Rios on what residents would like to see in the expanded park.

Mr. Rios’ firm, Rios Clementi Hale (RCH), has been tasked by the City with community outreach, research feasibility and concept design, and ultimately design of the park expansion. RCH previously worked in Santa Monica on Euclid and Douglas Park and also designed iconic parks and public spaces in Southern California, such as Los Angeles Grand Park, the Rancho Cienega Recreation Center and the L.A. Zoo Event and Play Space.

The park expansion became possible in 2015 when the City’s 1984 Agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration expired, freeing up land that had been used to park airplanes, which have recently been removed and is being repurposed into a park as stipulated by the passage of Measure LC in November 2015.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

CicLAvia: Celebrates 5 years & the 15th event at Heart of LA

CicLAvia Heart of LA 10/2015CicLAvia - Heart of LA will celebrate what has become a Los Angeles institution on October 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a fifth-year anniversary route. CicLAvia began as an idea with an uncertain outcome when it first removed cars from the streets of downtown Los Angeles on October 10, 2010. Now, five years, fourteen events and hundreds of thousands of participants later, CicLAvia is the largest open streets event in North America.

Heart of LA will have six miles for participants to explore by bike, foot, skateboard, wheelchair and other non-motorized traffic. The route will take people through Boyle Heights, the Arts District, Little Tokyo, Civic Center, Chinatown, Historic Core and as far west as Macarthur Park.

Whether you ride with us or get there on your own – don’t miss it! CicLAvia celebrates the streets of Los Angeles for everyone!  Helpful suggestion on participation at CicLAvia
