Happy Birthday Breeze Bike Share!

Three yeas ago Santa Monica led by launching Los Angeles County’s 1st public bike share — Breeze, presented by Hulu!

Congratulations Santa Monica and Breeze,
& Happy Birthday #3!

With shared mobility rapidly expanding with new technologies — we congratulate Santa Monica and Breeze bike share for leading the charge by improving the built environment with safer more visible traffic lanes paving the path for expanding new mobility options. Shared mobility that is more environmentally sustainable, help reduce our carbon foot print, traffic congestion and single car trips —and support our growing network of public transportation and shared mobility options. #GoSaMo

Earlier 2018 Santa Monica, along with 3 other systems led again — rolling out LA’s 1st regionally integrated bike share — with Bike Share Connect! Bike Share Connect combined 4 independent systems into one regionally connected and seamlessly integrated network which spans across over 34 square miles, from Venice Beach to Hollywood and Highland.

With the ground work laid and the spark of new mobility lit – this past year we have seen even more mobility options launch — motorized scooters and e-assist bikes — with surely more to come. Find out more about Santa Monicas’ Mobility Pilot Program here.

The milestones are just beginning! Here are a few —

The Share Mobility Pilot is part of the Santa Monica City Council and our community’s shared strategic goal and commitment to promote a safer, more sustainable multi-modal city of the future. This also pairs with the Council’s adoption to implement innovative Vision Zero approaches to ensure public safety and work to eliminate roadway collisions.

Today we sent a letter to the Santa Monica City Council, management and staff in support of Safe Streets for 17th Street and Michigan Avenue. We hope you will join us and send an email with your thoughts to Council@SMGov.net

Dear Mayor Ted Winterer, Santa Monica City Council, management and staff:

Thank you for your leadership as we move toward a more sustainable, healthier and active multimodal Santa Monica. Attached is our letter expressing our enthusiastic support of the Safe Streets for 17th Street and Michigan Avenue Project and the allocation of funds to “green bike lanes” — making them more visible, safe and inviting. In particular we would like to thank the Mobility Division and Carlos Morales for their planning of this visionary project and the dedication to robust and inclusive outreach as we move toward final planning and implementation. We do believe moving the implementation to the fastest timeline feasible would be a community benefit and get us closer too achieving our city’s safety and mobility goals.

Thank you
Cynthia Rose & Cris Gutierrez

April Ride with the Mayor and HandleBar Happy Hour at The Curious Palate

HandleBar Happy Hour April 26th at The Curious Palate in the Santa Monica Place
– Joined again by the monthly Ride with the Mayor
JOIN us for either or both!

This month we visit The Curious Palate, a Bike Local, Buy Local Business. A comfortable dining room and spacious patio on the dining deck of Santa Monica Place. There’s plenty of room for families, dogs, and groups of friends to gather. For The Curious Palate, cooking is all about connecting with people – and with the earth. This means they’re always exploring new ways of supporting artisans and local producers who can provide them with fresh, sustainable, natural ingredients to share with their patrons. They sell house made jams and jellies and source much of their fruit and produce locally through Farmers Markets.  Plus both their restaurants are built and furnished with Douglas Fir sourced from tear downs  — including one from a house here in Santa Monica - that’s cool!

HandleBar Happy Hour Special:
HH drink menu will be extended for entire duration of our visit, PLUS we’ll get 10% off on all remaining menu food and drinks (excluding the happy hour drinks).

End of every month we like to get together for fun, support local businesses, and to celebrate all things bike.bike_local_sticker
Always fun, always family friendly!

Socialize, talk bikes, give input ….

If it’s on your way don’t forget to pass the Bike Counter!

Big thank you to last month’s host Lunetta All Day  –  We had a GREAT GROUP – FUN was had by all!

Celebrate #BikeLocalSM, our Buy Local SM businesses, happy hour + new friends at these monthly events!  Learn about upcoming local bike events + find out about and connect with us at SM Spoke… as we visit and introduce you to some of our Buy Local SM businesses.  Eat Local, Drink Local, Buy Local AND Bike Local SM!
